A ratio shows the relationship between two or more quantities.

For instance, $1:5$ is for every $1$ part of the first quantity, there is every $5$ parts of the second quantity.

Algebraic Equation

A ratio can be seen as an algebraic equation, for instance $1:5$ can be seen as $1x:5x$ , which we can then solve for $x$ .

Example Solving

We will be solving for $1:5 = 30$ , with $30$ being the total number.

$1x:5x = 30$

We unify them to equate to the total number.

$6x = 30$

We then divide the total number by the count of $x$ .

$\frac{30}{6} = 5 = x$

Giving us $x = 5$ , and therefore solving the ratio.

$5:25 = 30$
