Gorton and Denton

The 2026 Gorton and Denton election is an example of one of the largest protest voting scenarios in UK history. The Greens were at 3rd place and managed to double their votes, winning the seat.
This demonstrates partisan dealignment.
Labour historically assumed the left-wing vote, focusing on gaining the centrist and right-wing votes. The same applied for the Conservatives. However, in this election, Reform UK and Green managed to become top 2, evidencing that the UK is moving from a two-party system to a multi-party system specifically a 2-bloc system.
It is important to note that this by-election does not represent a voting change nationally. Parties, such as the Greens, were able to focus resources on
Explaining the 2-bloc system
A 2-bloc system is the idea that the political system is split up into two blocks (left/right wing) and that people are happy to move between voting for different parties.
Caerphilly (Senedd)

Another example (similar case to By elections) shows the Labour vote collapsing in a seat they held since creation and Plaid Cymru taking the seat, with Plaid Cymru also jumping up from 3rd.
Future Examples: London Local Elections
Considering the trends shown in these examples, local elections may show a collapse in Labour votes.
Evaluation
Labour and MPs are likely to become less supportive throughout Parliament as they cannot be promised a job again since the voter share is clearly decreasing.
