Analysing the Weight of Factors in Elections

The significance of factors over-time are variable to change but have predominantly remained the same.

To grade these factors, we personally gave a score 1-10 for each one and averaged them as a class.

Leadership: Generally, leadership remained quite high up until the 2024 election. This can be attributed considerably to partisan dealignment.

  • 1983: Foot vs. Thatcher
  • 1997: Blair vs. Brown
  • 2019: Corbyn vs. Johnson - some voters were not willing to vote for Labour due to Corbyn and saw Johnson as a good alternative Campaign: Recent Events:
  • 2010: Financial crash
  • 2019: Brexit - ‘get Brexit done’
  • 2024: Lack of Conservative economic action
